Aya, my daughter, left home this spring to begin her career as a nurse in Tokyo.
However, by the end of June, she had come back to Osaka. There must have been
many reasons for her decision, but I think homesickness was probably the
biggest one. She resigned from her position at one of Japan's most prestigious
maternity hospitals.
On her last day in Tokyo, we went together to Azabu in Minato-ku, packed up
her apartment, and spent one final night there before returning to Osaka. I
thought she might regret giving up the opportunity to work at such a renowned
hospital in the heart of Japan. Surprisingly, though, she didn't seem to have
any regrets. Instead, she looked ready to move on.
I'm confident that Aya will overcome this setback and make a fresh start. She
has already begun looking for another position as a nurse. Life doesn't always
go as planned, especially when you're young. But youth also gives you the
freedom to start over.
Keep trying, Aya. Whatever path you choose, I'm sure you'll find your own way.
